Meetings

Club meetings provide an opportunity to meet other members, visit, and share stories about the hobby. The meeting is also the place to get your vote in about decisions that affect our club. Late breaking news that was not covered in the newsletter may also be available at the meeting.

A typical meeting includes transaction of official club business, usually followed by a guest speaker or some other form of program, then a break for refreshments and visiting. We usually reconvene for more club business, introduction of new members, door prizes, and raffles.

Some meetings are highlighted by special events, such as our ice cream social, silent auction, potlucks, and our December election.

The Potluck, one of the most popular events, is usually held in March before our snowbird members leave. It's like an end of the season party. Everyone brings their best dish, then eat dinner and socialize before the meeting begins.

Field Trips

If you are interested in rockhounding then our field trips are the place to be. Field trips are usually each weekend, starting in late Fall and running through early Spring. Most are on Saturday and are one day in duration, although we do have some overnight trips. Nearby accommodations are usually available for non-campers. Provisions vary from site to site but normally include a rock hammer, bag, plenty of drinking water, and lunch. Details for what is need for any particular field trip are included on the field trip calendar. Field trips are always fun and usually yield some nice material to work with. The current field trip schedule can be found at the back of this month's newsletter.

As members of the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies, all club members agree to abide by the
AFMS Code of Ethics.

Annual Show

Our annual show is the second weekend in November and is held at the Community (Aquatic) Center. Vendors set up sales booths featuring faceted and cabochon jewels, fossils, tools, books, findings, slabs, finished jewelry and gifts. Members for fun and competition set up display of handcrafted jewelry designs and collections of unusual minerals, fossils and rocks.

There are door prizes, raffles, and games for children. We have working demonstrations by professionals. We have our "Knowledge Resource Room" that has hands on activities, demonstrations, and other learning materials, that is fun and educational for adults and children alike.

Food and beverages can be obtained at our show kitchen. Our member made chili is always a great success. Of all of our club's activities the show is the most demanding and dependent on member volunteers to make it a success.

Wrappers and Beaders

Wire wrap is a hand fabricated method of jewelry design and creation. It involves the use of tools to bind and twist wires together. This jewelry making technique is possible to learn and perform in home studios because the needed tool are simple. Advantages of this technique are unlimited design possibilities, and the ability to incorporate any shape or finish of any material from gemstone to pottery shards.

Are you are looking for something unique, with a relatively low startup cost, to do with your special stones? This is the place to do it.
